Ricardo Hooper is the current Athletic Director at West Los Angeles College. In his short time at West LA he has made some significant changes the most obvious of changes is the new track that has been installed replacing and older and well used track. Other enhancements within the program he has made since his appointment has been the addition of the "Westby’s" a West LA version of the ESPY's which celebrates the athletic and academic accomplishments of both student athletes and coaches.
Dr. Ricardo Hooper has a long history in athletic administration that began at Clemson University, where he served as an academic adviser, moving west to San Jose State University serving as assistant athletic director, and then going back east to Delaware State University as a senior associate. (Marshall, 2013) During his bicoastal travels making a stop in the Midwest at the University of Arkansas where Ricardo Hooper became Dr. Hooper receiving his Doctorate of Higher, Education Administration. After his stint at Delaware State Dr. Hooper made his final trip back west entering California State University System as Associate Athletics Director-Marketing & Game Operations and Associate Athletics Director at Cal State San Bernardino.
Dr. Hooper well-traveled journey in athletic administration has landed him at West Los Angeles College where not only is he serving as the athletic director but taking on an additional title of Kinesiology Chair. The sky is the limit for Dr. Hooper and no challenge is to great! It doesn’t hurt that his NCAA Leadership Institute Program experience has been a huge part of his development as an administrator. The NCAA Leadership Institute Program is designed as a model for ethnic minority athletics administrators to receive training and acquire skill sets necessary to advance to leadership roles in athletics. This program addresses the critical shortage of senior-level advancement of minority administrators (San Jose Athletics, n.d)
Dr. Hooper is no stranger to the experiences many of his student athletes will incur as he is a former student athlete himself playing football for the premier division I Clemson Tiger program.
